St. Margaret’s School is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP).

IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education that St. Margaret’s believes is important for its students.

About the Programme

The Middle Years Programme serves students in Grades 6 to 10, providing a dynamic framework for learning during these formative years. It emphasizes inquiry, interdisciplinary learning, and global-mindedness, encouraging students to think critically, make connections across subjects, and engage with real-world issues from multiple perspectives.

A holistic approach, supported by Social Emotional Learning through advisory and homeroom, nurtures intellectual curiosity, creativity, and compassion. Collaboration shapes the intentional design of interdisciplinary units aligned with the IB mission to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help create a more peaceful world and advances our guiding value of Humanity.

Within our close-knit community, strong relationships are fostered through advisory, community blocks, clubs, athletics, and affinity groups. Aligned with SMS’s commitment to academic excellence, leadership development, and global citizenship, the MYP builds the academic rigour and character needed for success in the Diploma Programme and beyond.

The IB Learner Profile

Grounded in our guiding value of Humanity, the IB Learner Profile articulates the skills, mindsets, and character we seek to develop in every student as they grow into confident, compassionate global citizens.

A MESSAGE FROM THE VP

"The IB is a natural fit for the St. Margaret’s community. It nurtures curiosity, integrity, and a deep awareness of the world around us. Through the Middle Years Programme, students learn to think critically, make meaningful connections across subjects, and apply their learning in authentic, real-world ways. The IB framework beautifully reflects our School’s pillars of Academic Excellence, Leadership Development and Global Citizenship. As a girls’ school, we believe the IB empowers students to lead with confidence and compassion, living out our motto of Service with Love."
