The student experience at SMS doesn’t end when the school day is over. Our school is a dynamic community with many experiences to be had outside of school hours. Whether you choose to get involved in school clubs or other extracurricular activities, represent SMS on an athletic team, volunteer at school and community events, or join in any number of residence activities, clubs or trips, life here will never be dull. Come with a desire to get involved in school life and a willingness to try something new and you will be rewarded with a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Extracurricular Clubs and Activities

Loving where you learn isn’t all about academics; it also involves loving what you do outside of classes. Extracurricular clubs and activities offer opportunities to pursue an interest you already have or try something new. Whether your passion lies in baking tasty treats, making a difference in your community or pushing yourself on the soccer field, there is something for everyone.

The House System – Canmore, Christian, Malcom, Turgot

Every student, teacher and staff member belongs to one of four houses. The house system fosters inter-grade camaraderie and a great sense of pride amongst students and staff.

House Challenges and Points

The houses engage in many friendly, fun and sometimes wacky challenges throughout the school year. Students and staff wear their house colours with pride and compete to earn house points for their school spirit and teamwork. At the end of the school year the total points earned by each house are added up in two categories: academics and athletics. The house(s) that have earned the most points in each category are presented with the highly coveted Margaret Barton Inter-House Challenge Cup (academics) and Godson Trophy (athletics).
