Our school motto, Servite in Caritate ~ Service with Love, encourages students and staff alike to embrace volunteerism and philanthropy in both shared resonsibilities and individual pursuits, and to contribute to society in a meaningful way. Kate Harrigan (Class of 2017) spent part of her summer on a service trip with Free the Children. Her two weeks in Nicaragua were split between helping out on a building site for a new school and exploring a bit of the region around Los Campos. Jobs included moving soil, digging holes, and more (Kate assures us that due to earthquake safety only experienced foremen were responsible for building structures), and the students enjoyed interacting with local school children. Kate had this to say:

“My trip to Nicaragua was incredible! I met so many amazing people and made many connections with those in the community as well as my Nicaragua family. The country was absolutely beautiful and getting to see an active volcano was amazing!

A highlight from my trip was getting to visit Café De Las Sonrisas. The cafe was so creative and the founder and owner, Tio Antonio, was truly inspirational. I am so thankful that I was able to go on this trip and I hope I will be able to go back to Nicaragua some day.”
