This week’s Faculty Friday is a new teacher on the block that feels like a long-time SMS family member. Grade 7 teacher Ms. Carvalho can often be seen in the crowd of sporting events cheering on her students, dancing down the hallways and spreading joy, or working with the Outreach club in her free time. Welcome to SMS Ms. Carvalho!

What grade/subject do you teach?

Humanities 7, ADST 7A, SET 7, homeroom 7A, Global Perspectives 5/6 and 7/8.

What is your favourite unit to teach

Hard to say!!!!!! I love any topic that has to do with language arts and history so…ALL OF THEM?

What book do you give most as a gift?

I like to give books to children as gifts. Over the years, I’ve loved to share, “Yummy, Yucky” by Leslie Patricelli, as well as, “Corduroy” by Don Freeman.

What other SMS staff member would you most want to be stuck on a deserted island with and why?

Zel in maintenance! I could help him build us a boat and get us off the island in no time.

I love brunch (eggs benny, please) and one of my local favourite spots (owned by a fellow Kitimatian) is The Ruby on Douglas.

I am a soccer player at heart, but since I’m recovering from ankle surgery, I’ve been practising Vinyasa Yoga. I love the freedom, flexibility and strength it brings to my body, mind and soul!

Listen more; talk less.

What habit do you do every day that you feel is integral to the success of your day?
