This week’s feature is SY Math and Science teacher Mrs. Lee, who is new to SMS this year. In just a few short months she has already fit in seamlessly with our close-knit SMS community.

What year did you start working at SMS?

2018

What grade/subject do you teach or what is your role?

Biology 12, Science 9, Math 10

What is your favourite unit to teach?

Biology 12 – human body systems (all of it!)

What book do you give most as a gift?

The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. What can say, I go to a lot of kids birthday parties!

What other SMS staff member would you most want to be stuck on a deserted island with and why?

Emma because she could help me paddle off the island or at least pass the time playing hoops using a coconut.

What is your favourite food & local restaurant?

Thai food. Romeo’s lasagna. It used to be Pagliacci’s, pre-kids. To be honest, it’s all about the take out now!

What is your hobby/obsession?!

What’s a hobby?! The reality of this season of my life with a six and a three-year-old means it’s finding joy in the moments where my daughters are living their best life being silly, having fun, and just being kids. But, I’ve just started a dance fitness class!!!

What is your secret talent or superpower?

Laughing. Being a working mother.

What is one thing you can’t live without?

Hugs and kisses from my daughters.

What one piece of advice would you give to your younger self?

Everything happens for a reason and a season.

Also, there’s nothing wrong with being “shy” or “reserved”. There’s strength in empathy and observation.

What habit do you do every day that you feel is integral to the success of your day?

Waking up to a quiet house where I can sit and enjoy a fresh, hot, non-microwaved mug of coffee (or at least a few sips) and plan my day in peace – even if it’s only for 15 minutes!

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Both – depends on the day of the week. I go with the flow.

Can you touch your nose with your tongue?

Unfortunately no.

What are you binge watching right now, if anything?

I just binge watched You on Netflix. Thought-provoking and totally creepy.

Cat or Dog?

100% Team Dog!! Endless love and snuggles from my Boston Terrier Max – my first (fur)child.
