The sun is out and so are the athletes! All this beautiful weather has our campus alive with activity. Whether they are playing around on the tennis courts before school or taking to the rugby pitch or track after school, St. Margaret’s athletes are happy to get outside.

The Sr. Badminton team wrapped up its season this past Monday. With over 30 participants, the team competed locally in one exhibition tournament and in the Grade 9 and 10 City Championships. Once again, St. Margaret’s hosted a successful Grade 9 City Championships and travelled to Spectrum Community School for the Grade 10 City Championships. Congratulations to all the athletes.

Rugby 7s
The combined SMS/Vic High Rugby 7s team has had an exciting couple of weeks. They recorded their second win of the season, beating Stelly’s 19-12 in a dominant performance by St. Margaret’s athlete Maelle Reed. Even practice this week was exciting as the team had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to practice with the Team England Women’s Rugby 7 squad in town for Langford 7s this weekend. This experience has the team excited for their remaining league games and Langford 7s. If you haven’t had a chance to check-out this amazing sport, head out to Westhills Stadium this weekend for an unforgettable sport experience.

Next League Games: Friday, May 10 @ Vic High- kick-off 3:00 pm
Monday, May 13 @ Esquimalt- kick-off 3:45 pm

Once again, off-campus our SMS student-athletes are hard at work in their own athletic pursuits. A big congratulations to Grade 12 student-athletes Colette Reimer and Maelle Reed as each represented Canada this past month in international competition. Reimer travelled to Mexico to compete in the women’s triathlon circuit. Battling rainy weather conditions, she recorded her highest placement in International competition, placing 8th overall. Reed travelled to Japan for an 8-team international tournament in Rugby 7s. Congratulations to both athletes; St. Margaret’s is so proud of their grit and determination!
