Culture Vulture Contest – A concise history

The Culture Vulture descended onto the SMS campus sometime between 1988 and 1991. CV, as he is affectionately known, is a mascot that was conceived by Ms. Huneck to promote understanding and appreciation of fine arts, which includes dance, drama, music, and visual art. The CV mandate is to challenge and educate people so that they are able to identify common classical works that are prevalent in western culture, such as a sonnet from Shakespeare,  a painting by Van Gogh, a pas de deux from Swan Lake, or Beethoven's Ninth symphony.

CV promotes culture by appearing at an assembly and presenting the SMS  community with a piece of culture that they are invited to identify. To enter contestants place their answer into an official CV container. All contestants who provide correct answers have their names read aloud at the following assembly and are included in the draw for a highly prized, handcrafted, one of a kind keeper trophy. To date, the most cultured person at St. Margaret’s, and the grand overall champion of the Culture Vulture contest, is Ms. Blazey.
