St. Margaret’s School Society
Board of Governors
2018 Call for Nominations

The St. Margaret’s School Society, the body that governs St. Margaret’s School (SMS), is seeking nominations of interested and qualified members for the Board of Governors (BoG). Elections will take place at the 2018 General Meeting of the SMS Society to be held April 10, 2018. Governors will be elected to a 3 year term.

This letter serves to advise SMS Society members about the nomination process and expectations created by the SMS BoG Nomination and Succession Committee for potential candidates.

The BoG is pursuing members willing to provide their time, skills and expertise to SMS. Candidates should be strategically minded, be willing to be stewards of SMS, and be capable of impartially evaluating issues and opportunities affecting SMS. All candidates should possess a history of achievement in multiple Board Competencies, and be prepared to use their time, skill set and resources to advance SMS.  The Board is especially seeking candidates with backgrounds in business, law, building and facilities planning, and accounting. Candidates maybe parents of current or former SMS students, but it is not a requirement. Community involvement in SMS is a contributor to healthy Governance. Members of the local community, alumnae over 19, and grandparents of SMS current students are also being sought.

All prospective candidates for Governor should fully consider the expectations of board service prior to seeking nomination. As a Governor you will be expected to be prepared for, attend and be engaged in regular BoG meetings. In addition, you will be expected to participate in Board committees, attend an annual full day BoG Summit Session, and the SMS Closing Ceremonies.  Board members are also expected to contribute to the development of the School through active involvement in the annual advancement campaign.

The deadline for nominations is 11:59 AM, Saturday, March 10, 2018. Interested candidates should submit their completed application and resume (one page executive summary) electronically to the attention of the Nomination and Succession Committee, via the BoG Administrative Assistant (email address: boardadmin@smsbc.ca). Interested parties are also encouraged to contact the Chair of the Board for more information, including an in person discussion to discuss expectations of Governors.

All candidates who complete the application process according to SMS bylaws will be eligible for election at the AGM. Upon reviewing all applications the Nomination and Succession Committee will publish a list of endorsed candidates that the Committee feels would best serve the needs of SMS.

Information about the BoG and its role is available through the SMS website. Further information about the nomination and election process can be found in the Society Bylaws on the BoG Publications page.

Sincerely,

Carmen Campbell-Hewitt
Chair, SMS Board of Governors
