Residence students are served three meals a day in Alexis Hall. The dining hall features a variety of healthy menu choices including locally and internationally inspired cuisine, a full salad bar, and daily homemade soup. However, each residence house also contains a dedicated kitchen where girls can prepare their own snacks and can often be found baking cookies or cooking their favourite meals together with their House Moms.
Residence students can choose to do their laundry themselves in their houses for $1, or have it done by a professional laundress on laundry day.
Boarding students are responsible for keeping their residence room clean and tidy throughout the school year and sharing cleaning duties to maintain common rooms. We believe this is important to foster good personal care habits, maturity, and a sense of responsibility. Residence houses are cleaned professionally as a whole during holiday breaks.
The SMS health and wellness team includes school nurses, a physician, and counsellors. Our on-campus health clinic is open from Monday to Friday, and school nurses will help students make any appointments off campus to urgent medical care if needed or any paramedical services not delivered on site (dental, massage, physiotherapy).
Counselling services are available both during and after school hours, with a dedicated residence counsellor on staff in the evenings to offer advice, help boarding students through homesickness and culture shock, and resolve interpersonal conflicts with roommates. More about Health Services…
In addition to arranging field trips and regular bus service, our school transport team provides regular service to downtown Victoria, the BC Ferries terminal, and Victoria International Airport.
Our bus service to downtown Victoria is available weekends at 5:30 p.m. with pickup at 9:30 and 10:30 p.m. We also provide bus transportation on weekends to and from BC Ferries for students visiting Vancouver and the mainland, or the Gulf Islands. (On some weekends leave is not permitted.)
Taxis and public transit are another option available to students. The cost of taxi rides can be charged directly to the girl’s school account using a charge slip. Boarding students are also welcome to borrow from the school’s fleet of 10 bicycles to use cycling trails accessible from campus, and as an alternative way to get around town.
SMS can arrange local accommodation with a Canadian family for any boarding students not planning to travel home over school holidays. Homestays are also used to house students participating in our summer school program.
We are located on a very safe, quiet residential neighborhood. Our campus is patrolled by security guards in the evenings and weekends, and house parents are on staff at all times. All of the buildings on campus are secured with an alarm system.
