Counselling
Saint Margaret's School provides two full time areas of counselling; personal
and post-secondary.
Personal Counselling
St. Margaret’s has a full-time counselor, Ms. Ingrid Rueffel, who is available
Monday through Friday during the school day, and is available for the Senior School population from
Grade 7 - 12. She also works with Junior School students upon request.
Counseling at Saint Margaret's School encompasses a broad range of issues
common to adolescent girls, issues of relationship being often paramount.
Our Counselor addresses areas of self-esteem, academic stressors, homesickness,
and a wide variety of personal matters. Issues of extreme psychological
difficulty or specialized situations are usually referred out of school to
psychologists or psychiatrists. This ensures that the student not only
receives expert care as needed, including appropriate medications when
required, but also absolute privacy away from the school community.
Counselors liaise, where appropriate, with tutorial and administrative
staff, residence personnel, the school medical team, outside
medical personnel, and parents.
Post-Secondary Counselling
Ms. Kris Botten and Ms. Cecilia Penner are available to both students and parents
as the Career and Post-Secondary counsellors. The application process and
requirements for post-secondary has changed dramatically over the past twenty
years and continues to change. Students are encouraged to take a proactive view
to their education and research their choices themselves.
Saint Margaret’s has provided this list of graduation and post-secondary
related websites for students and parents to aid them with their research.
If there are any questions, please visit Ms. Botten or Ms. Penner in the
CAPP centre during school hours.
