Residence Trips and Activities
While students live in residence, we try to offer them opportunities to stay active, connect with staff and students to build long-lasting relationships, and make them feel at home.
House Staff
Most importantly, the house staff are always available to engage students in conversations, play games, do puzzles, help with homework, movie nights, house decorating for holidays and so much more. It may not be an organized weekly activity. For example, students and staff are organized an Oscar party in our activity center where we have large flat screen TV with surround sound. We are also in the process of purchasing a Nintendo Wii© where girls can participate in games together while being active.
Weekly Activities
Some activities are organized for the students to sign up for and participate in on a regular basis. Some activities that are taking place right now include:
Monday - 6 AM Running with Amy, 8 PM Art Club with Cari
Wednesday - 8 PM Fitness with Lara
Thursday - 4 PM Bellyfit, 7 PM Yoga, 8 PM Baking/Cooking with Lilian
Friday - 6 AM Running with Amy, 7 PM Crafts with Friday night staff
Saturday - 7 PM Knitting with Anita
Clubs
We also offer activities such as the Baking Club, movie and crafts night, and the Scrapbooking Club to give the girls opportunities to gain life skills and alternate outlets of expression. We also open the gymnasium and weight room upon request if students wish to expend their extra energy.
Trips
A variety of trips are planned throughout the year to expose students to other parts of Vancouver Island as well as other parts of Canada and Seattle. We have already had two successful trips. The first trip was a weekend at the West Edmonton Mall in Alberta. It's the world's largest entertainment and shopping centre featuring over 800 stores and services. The most recent trip was a ski weekend in Whistler, the future sight of the 2010 Winter Olympics. We are in the process of planning a Weekend Extravaganza with one night in Vancouver for shopping and Theatre Sports, high ropes course in Nanaimo and a Marine Wildlife EcoTour in Victoria. We will be organizing a weekend in Seattle to shop and see the sights.
