SMS Board Nomination Committee Report

SMS Board Nomination Committee Report

In August 2012 the St. Margaret’s School (SMS) Society invited nominations to the SMS Board of Governors (BOG). As per the Bylaws, this year’s elections will take place at the 2012 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the SMS Society on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 6:30pm in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Junior School.

The Governance and Nomination Committee of the SMS BOG full endorses and supports the nomination of the following five candidates:

  • Varinia Somosan (returning Governor)
  • Owen Matthews (returning Governor)
  • Richard Beil (returning Governor)
  • Ian Mugridge
  • Evan Leeson

The committee is pleased by the caliber of the nominees and feels they will be valuable assets to SMS. The three returning Governors have all shown their worth in their previous terms and will continue to steward SMS into the future. The addition of Ian Mugridge will bring more experience in independent school governance and post-secondary education, as well as some specialization in distance education. Evan Leeson brings strategic thinking and communications expertise from his web development and strategic communications business. Whether returning or new, the entire group of nominees shares a passion for SMS, a dedication to fulfilling the new strategic vision, and a wealth of experience and competencies to help guide SMS into the future.

The SMS Society bylaws state that the maximum number of Governors shall not exceed fifteen. The Committee is pleased to advise that the five qualified nominees will be elected by acclamation. Their terms commence at the AGM on October 23, 2012 and will run until June 2016.

Thank you for supporting SMS.

Sincerely,

Morgan Harker
Chair, Governance and Nomination Committee
SMS Board of Governors
