Boarding Trips & Activities

While students live in residence, we try to offer them opportunities to stay active, connect with staff and students to build long-lasting relationships, and make them feel at home.

House Staff
Most importantly, the house staff are always available to engage students in conversations, play games, do puzzles, help with homework, movie nights, house decorating for holidays and so much more. It may not be an organized weekly activity but a spur of the moment opportunity. For example, students and staff have organized Oscar parties in our activity center where we have large flat screen TV with surround sound. We also will have a spontaneous bake-off where the girls decide what the key ingredient must be and they experiment. The results may not always be delicious but it sure is entertaining. We also have a Nintendo Wii which the girls can use on the weekends to get them interacting with girls they may not otherwise connect with.

Clubs and Weekly Activities
We also offer activities and clubs to give the girls opportunities to gain life skills, stay physically active, and provide alternate outlets of expression. We also open the gymnasium and weight room upon request if students wish to expend their extra energy. We also take the girls to operas, hockey games, live plays & other local activities as opportunities arise.

Trips
A variety of trips are planned throughout the year to expose students to other parts of Vancouver Island as well as other parts of Canada and Seattle. We organize a surfing trip to Ucluelet/Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Depending on interest, we take them up on the Thanksgiving long weekend and then again in the spring. Over the November long weekend, we take the girls to West Edmonton mall, not only to shop, but to enjoy the other facilities there such as the wave pool, skating rink and theme park. When the snow arrives after exams, we offer a trip to Whistler, BC, site of the 2010 Olympic games. Here the girls have lessons with a well reputed ski school and the instructor stays with them at all times on the hill. These opportunities further enhance the girls’ experiences that will add to the memories they make at St. Margaret’s.
