Ready, Set, Learn

St. Margaret’s School’s Early Learning Centre presents two award winning children’s authors/storytellers during our Ready, Set, Learn event for preschool aged children. Everyone is welcome! Visitors are welcome to drop by the Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms and meet the teachers as well.

Diane Swanson
Diane Swanson is an award-winning Canadian author of science books for children. She has written more than 70 published books, including her most recent titles: You Are Weird: Your Body's Peculiar Parts and Funny Functions (Kids Can Press, 2009), Animal AHA! Thrilling Discoveries in Wildlife Science (Annick Press, 2009), and a revised edition of Nibbling on Einstein's Brain: The Good, The Bad & The Bogus in Science (Annick Press, 2009). She has also written hundreds of articles for magazines. Diane has focused on science and nature topics for young readers, often winning awards for her work. As a speaker, she enjoys interacting with children as well as adults, and makes frequent appearances at conferences, libraries and schools throughout North America.

Peg Hasted
A professional storyteller, Peg Hasted brings lively participation tales, seasonal stories and years of experience to school visits and family events. Peg is a member of Storytellers of Canada/Conteurs du Canada (SC-CC) and the Victoria Storytellers’ Guild. She is a recipient of the Alice Kane Award and was chosen to tour for Canadian Children’s Book Week. As a story coach and workshop facilitator, Peg encourages tellers of all ages and levels, including parents, educators and students. Her presentations are infused with enthusiasm and a belief that everyone has a story to tell!
