What is the Board of Governors?
The Board is the governing body that oversees the business affairs of St. Margaret's School.

How does it govern?
It governs according to the Society Act (B.C), the Bylaws of the St. Margaret's School Society, and the policies and procedures that the Board approves.

What is its role?
It approves the policies that guide the Head of School in the administration of St. Margaret's. It approves the School's operating and capital expenses. It sets tuition fees and oversees the maintenance of all assets including buildings, equipment, and grounds.

Who is the Executive Committee?
It is the Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and the Treasurer of the Board.

Who are the Board members?
It is composed of parents, alumnae, and other interested members of the St. Margaret's School Society.

When are regular Board meetings held?
Board meetings are usually held the first Tuesday of each month except for January. This meeting is held on the second Tuesday. The Chair may also call out of schedule meetings to deal with any urgent or immediate issues that may arise.

How many Board members are there?
There are currently 14 volunteer Board members. The Board may have a maximum of 15 members.

How long do members serve?
Governors serve 42-month terms.

Can I attend regular meetings?
A current member of the St. Margaret's School Society may attend regular Board meetings. Most meetings are held in open sessions. Some parts of the meeting, however, may be held "in camera." This means that only Board members may attend. Confidential financial, personal, or legal matters may be discussed during these sessions. Members of the School's administration also attend Board meetings but do not have voting power.

How do I become a Board member?

Board members are elected by members of the St. Margaret's School Society. Any current member may stand for election after approval by the Board's Nominating Committee.

When are elections to the Board?
Elections are held at the Annual General Meeting of the St. Margaret's School Society. A call for nominations is issued at least 60 days before a Board of Governors election. A candidate's nomination form, resume, and consent must be submitted to the Nominating Committee at least 30 days before the election date. Please contact Sally Green, Recording Secretary. She will forward your request to the Board Chair, or a member of the Nominating Committee.
