All Girl Advantage
There are distinct advantages offered by all girl independent schools. The results of numerous studies conducted in North America, Britain and beyond have been published in major newspapers, and in leading periodicals including Time magazine, Psychology Today, the Journal of Education Research, Education Week and the American Journal of Education. These articles and studies can provide valuable information as you make your daughter's educational choice.
In co-ed schools:
- Girls are ahead of boys in the early grades in reading, writing and math, yet by the end of high school boys are scoring higher
- The science gap between boys and girls in co-ed high school is increasing
- As girls enter adolescence years, self esteem drops as a result of school experience
The studies also show that girls in all-girl schools:
- Do better all-round academically and in examinations for university entrance
- Are more likely to choose math and science courses and excel in them
- Are more likely to go on to post secondary education
- Have a greater sense of self esteem
- Have less stereotyped views of men's verses women's occupations
Other studies have surveyed women years after they graduated from all girl schools relative to their counterparts from similar co-educational institutions.
The studies results indicate that the graduates from all-girl schools are:
- Much more likely to graduate from college or university
- More likely to obtain doctorates
- More likely to be professionals or hold executive
or managerial positions in business - More financially successful
- More active in community organizations
