Senior School Programme Overview
Senior School: Grades 7 to 12
The Senior School consists of 233 girls from Grades 7 to 12. Within this
small, supportive community it is easy for the girls to know teachers and
their fellow students well and to develop a strong sense of belonging.
Although there remains a strong focus on academics and university preparation
is a foremost objective, Saint Margaret's recognizes that involvement
in athletics, fine arts and the community not only help develop a well
rounded student, but improve the quality of education by
developing areas of the brain which support logic, communication and
problem solving.
Academics
Saint Margaret's School has a strong tradition of academic excellence with
our graduates continuing on to national and international universities
to study a variety of subjects ranging from bio-chemistry to computer
programming to graphic design.
In addition to Honours, Accelerated and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, Saint
Margaret's offers students and their parents the opportunity to tailor
their curriculum (within the Ministry approved guidelines) to focus
upon specific areas of study.
Athletics
Saint Margaret's Physical Education Programme fosters fitness, character
development and teamwork in students. In addition to the mandatory
Physical Education Programme, the School encourages students to participate
in the wide variety of sports. The School's fully equipped fitness
centre was renovated in 2000 and is open to girls for year-round weight
and cardio training. Saint Margaret's also takes advantage of the nearby
Olympic-standard Aquatics facility and the outdoor rowing facilities,
which they share with the Canadian Olympic rowing team.
Fine Arts
Students in all grades have the opportunity to participate in a variety
of Fine Arts. In addition to regular and extra-curricular classes
including Rock Band and Jazz Band, students can participate in the
Senior School production held each spring and have the option of taking
private lessons in voice, speech arts and a variety of musical
instruments. Students perform year-round at whole school
assemblies and at local festivals and competitions.
