In the past Grade 7 and 8 Programme, students made a choice of one Fine Arts elective each year. However, we firmly believe that all students should be introduced to a variety of Fine Arts experiences and we will now be including both Visual Arts and Music, in the form of Band, into the timetables for all students.
In Visual Arts students will turn their hand to drawing, painting, printmaking and basic ceramics, as well as explore colour theory and the basic elements of design.
In Band, students will learn to read music and perform as a part of a musical team. Instruments will be chosen with the teacher in September. The Grade 6 students will also be offered the Band Programme within their curriculum, beginning in January 2010.
Dance will be offered as part of the PE programme, as well as the offering of an after school class that is open to students in Grades 7-12. Additionally, students may choose to participate in other out-of-timetable Fine Arts classes, such as Drama Production, Jazz Choir and Rock Band. Thus students will now have the opportunity to participate in visual, dramatic, and performing arts in their Grade 7 and 8 years.
